Orchard Hill Country Inn
This boutique inn in the mountains is just a few minutes’ walk from Julian’s main street. After a day of exploring the town’s charming shops, refilling apple pie at the Julian Pie Company or trying flights with cider, settle into a cozy room in one of the 12 private cottages or lodge. Many of the rooms have spacious bathrooms with whirlpool bathtubs and gas fireplaces. This is the perfect warm up option if you plan to stay during the snow season (through early April).
El Cajon / Dehesa
The 30-minute drive east on Dehesa Road will make you feel like you are escaping the city without traveling too far. The 12-story casino resort offers room service, balconies with mountain views, and an expansive pool deck with a lazy river, cabanas and day beds, and numerous outdoor dining options. A few miles away is the more secluded Singing Hills Golf Resort, which has three golf courses and a hotel with rooms overlooking the greens.
Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa
Rancho Santa Fe
For a secluded vacation, book a room in one of the luxurious casitas for a relaxing getaway. While it is tempting to relax in front of a fire on the private deck or soak in the soaking tub, the grounds of the resort are well worth exploring – there are several acres of gardens and lemon groves to enjoy on a leisurely stroll or one Can explore bike tour. The new Pony Camp, an alfresco restaurant on the resort’s Croquet Lawn, also has outdoor fitness classes, tennis, and elegant al fresco dining. The full menu of The Pony Room restaurant is served here, including wine and cocktail pairings.
The cabanas at Hotel Del
The icon with the red roof is currently under renovation for several million dollars. The newest amenity is The Cabanas – a neighborhood on the property with nearly 100 new guest rooms overlooking the ocean or the glamorously renovated pool. If you get an oceanfront room on the ground floor, relax by your private fire pit just steps from Coronado Beach. The cabanas are also near the resort’s new sundeck, where you can dine or have a drink al fresco while enjoying the ocean views.
Alila Marea Beach Resort
Look out for this brand new hotel on Ponto Beach. It was built from scratch and is slated to debut in early 2021. The sleek 130-room property will feature an oceanfront pool and infinity hot tub, pool bar, and activity packages developed by local surfer Rob Machado. Chef Claudette Zepeda opens her new restaurant Vaga here. The menu offers a variety of international dishes and plenty of sea views.
