Amtrak provides new digital fee choices

To improve the customer experience, Amtrak is now offering new digital payment options for the Amtrak Mobile App and, including Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal.

“We know every minute counts for our customers, and now buying tickets is as easy as the push of a button,” said Roger Harris, executive vice president, chief marketing and revenue officer for Amtrak. “These updates to the Amtrak app and website give customers more flexibility and convenience when booking and paying for train tickets.”

Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal are now available on the Amtrak mobile app and website at checkout, offering users an alternative to traditional credit and debit card payments. Customers can use all three payment solutions to buy tickets and more.

Once logged in, customers can save their preferred digital payment method as the default payment option in their profile for faster purchase. For each of the three new payment methods, customers can buy tickets and change reservations that were originally paid for using one of the digital payment solutions.

Amtrak strives to continuously improve and expand its website and mobile platforms. Among the updates are:

• • Capacity display: When searching for trips, customers see a volume percentage next to each train. This gives customers the opportunity to book a train that is less crowded. These percentages adjust dynamically in real time as more passengers reserve.

• • Seamless gate service: To reduce the number of departure boards, users of the Amtrak app can receive gate and track information via push notifications at selected stations. The home screen also contains gate and track information for applicable reservations (if published).

• • Contactless travel: Customers can conveniently book, board, check train status and access information from a mobile device. Amtrak recommends boarding with eTickets, which conductors scan through the Amtrak app.
