Ann Arbor writer pens “100 Issues To Do in Ann Arbor Earlier than You Die”

ANN ARBOR, me. – Author Patricia Majher has lived in Tree Town for nearly 40 years and knows a thing or two (or 100) about the city.

Her latest book, 100 Things to Do in Ann Arbor Before You Die, is an ode to Ann Arbor adventures, combining Townie favorites with tourist occasions.

Inspired by a similar book she picked up on vacation on Mackinac Island, Majher went to work creating her own Ann Arbor version of “100 Things To Do Before You Die.”

“The hard part in a city like Ann Arbor, which has so much to offer, was keeping it down to 100,” said Majher.

While everyone has their favorite spots in Tree Town, Majher’s favorites are the Ann Arbor Farmers Market and shops in Kerrytown, as well as the University of Michigan Natural History Museum and the city’s other museums.

Majher went out of his way to have comprehensive suggestions in her book, broken down into easy-to-read categories for readers looking for specific suggestions or interested in specific parts of the city, such as the dining scene or sports.

Throughout her book, Majher offers tips to help readers navigate the parking lot, find hidden gems (like the literati Bookstore’s famous typewriter), or discover the history of Ann Arbor in smaller museums.

When you’re out and about in Ann Arbor, it’s easy to put a bump in your wallet. That’s why Majher has made sure that free activities and family-friendly spaces like the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum or the Creature Conservancy are offered.

“I think Ann Arbor has a reputation for being expensive, and a lot of the things I have in the book are free and many are aimed at children. So it can be a cheap experience for the whole family, “said Majher.

Her book also includes classic restaurants like Krazy Jims Blimpyburger and Fleetwood, as well as newer restaurants and bars.

On the back of “100 Things to Do in Ann Arbor Before You Die,” you will find itineraries for those looking to explore theme by theme. Activities are broken down from season to season so readers can find something to do at any time of the year.

Majher has authored three previous books on the history of Michigan, but this is her first travel-based book and her first with Reedy Press.

“100 Things to Do in Ann Arbor Before You Die” can be found in Nicolas’ books, hardcover and online here.
