Claire Wasserman On Book ‘Women Get Paid’: ‘Earlier than You Can Advocate For Your self, You Have To Imagine You Are Worthy’ – WCCO

(CBS Local) – Money was and is a taboo subject for couples, families and friends, and Claire Wasserman wants to change that. The author and founder of Ladies Get Paid, a global community committed to women’s financial advancement, has been traveling the country for years asking women very simple questions about money.

Wasserman’s new book from Gallery Books, reprinted by Simon & Schuster, is called “Ladies Get Paid” and covers several important topics such as professional development, negotiating a salary, and developing a plan to achieve all of your financial goals.

“All of this comes from real women, and I’ve followed the lives of nine real women in the book,” Wasserman said in an interview with DJ Sixsmith of CBS Local. “Everyone faces a different professional challenge, such as who I am, why I am here, and what to do. It’s all in the life cycle of your career, minus the retirement part. It took almost two years to write this. I have never considered myself a feminist and had a complete misunderstanding of what feminism is. It was about five and a half years ago that I had a sexist experience that woke me up. It was enough to scare me from the naivety, but also from the uncomfortable dynamics of gender power. I didn’t know about systemic inequality and the pay gap and leadership gap. “

The author’s exploration of all of these topics enabled her to learn about microaggression and statistics about women in the workplace. Wasserman’s curiosity led her to launch the Ladies Get Paid business, where offline events talked about money with women across the country.

“I got women in a room and said what money means to them,” Wasserman said. “I knew it was really going to be a conversation about power, and that’s what I wanted women to have. You need to understand what is holding us back first. That’s how we are socialized. Before you can stand up for yourself, you must deeply believe that you are worth it. I have a feel for what women want and need in their life and what the universals are. The book is condensed all of this knowledge. No matter where you live, what you do, or how old you are, many of these things are universal. Women realize that if they go through something similar they can band together. “

“Ladies Get Paid” is available wherever books are sold on Tuesday January 12th. Here you can watch all interviews by DJ Sixsmith from the series “The Sit-Down”.
