Forget MacBook Pro 2021: Samsung Galaxy Book Pro stuns in new leak

Last week, a leaked roadmap revealed the planned launch of Samsung products over the next several months. While our main focus was on the Galaxy S21 FE planned for August, a fascinating PC Unpacked event is also planned for next month.

Now, Evan Blass, the incumbent leaker who shared the original roadmap, has returned with information on two of the products slated to hit the market next month: the Samsung Galaxy Book Pro and the Pro 360. These systems look quite sleek and powerful out and might steal some attention away from the upcoming 14-inch MacBook Pro.

As can be seen from the naming conventions, the difference between the two seems to be in the form factor rather than the internal specifications. While the Galaxy Book Pro is a no-fuss laptop and is a continuation of the Galaxy Book Ion, the Pro 360 has a 360-degree hinge that can be used to flip the screen and turn it into a Windows-based tablet. In other words, it seems closer to the Galaxy Book Flex in terms of its design.

However, it appears from the limited specifications available that the internal DNA is largely shared. Both will come in 13- and 15-inch sizes with 11th generation Intel processors and a choice of embedded graphics or something more discreet in the form of Nvidia’s MX450 GPU.

The screens – both of which support Samsung’s S Pen – are Full HD AMOLED panels, and the devices are said to include Thunderbolt 4 support and optional LTE connectivity. (Why not 5G?) Apparently the regular Pro model will be available in blue or silver while the Pro 360 will be available in navy or gold.

While Blass didn’t mention this when the Galaxy Book Pro was first shared by WalkingCat on Twitter last month, the leaker also revealed a third laptop: the Galaxy Book Go.

As you can see from the embedding above, this promises to be “the fastest Qualcomm processor ever in G.Book,” assuming you get the top tier model with an 8cx processor, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of UFS SSD -Storage. An entry-level model with a 7c processor, 4 GB RAM and a 128 GB UFS SSD is planned.

WalkingCat wrote that both the Galaxy Book Pro and Go are “coming in May”. This is a little later than the roadmap Blass shared, albeit not dramatically. It is also entirely possible that the devices will be unveiled on April 14th, but may not be available until next month.

Apple is slated to host an Apple event in April where the company is expected to showcase a new iPad Pro 2021, AirTags, and possibly a new iMac 2021 with Apple Silicon, but a new MacBook Pro 14-inch and MacBook Pro 16-inch in 2021 may not appear until later.

In any case, it doesn’t look like we’ll have to wait long to see more details like pricing, availability, and the availability of Chrome OS-based devices for these Windows computers.
