How to win a shot in the arm

DENVER (KDVR) – There is no book or manual to help you find a COVID-19 vaccine appointment.

However, there are several websites and Facebook groups that can help you navigate the often complicated and stressful process of finding a vaccine.

The FOX31 problem solvers found several helpful resources. First, check out this page from the state of Colorado for links to register for the vaccine at many pharmacies.

Many Colorado vaccine hunters routinely monitor and search the Colorado Vaccine Spotters website.

There are also numerous Facebook groups offering tips on finding vaccines. One of the best is called Colorado Vaccine Hunters.

Colleen Gannon asked the group for advice on finding a vaccine this week. She received a leftover vaccine at a drugstore in the Denver area.

Gina Lux also got a chance this week after learning about leftover vaccines.

Both women now share some tips they learned through the Facebook group.

First, search often and don’t forget to update your web pages. It’s also beneficial to check for vaccines very late at night or early in the morning, especially in places like Walmart.

“I think Walmart publishes all vaccine dates at midnight east time. So if you set your phone or computer to New York time and can check it out here in Colorado at 10 p.m., you can technically see all appointments two hours before you arrive in your area, ”Gannon advised.

Another tip? Be ready to travel to get your vaccine.

More appointments are available in many rural pharmacies. Colorado Vaccine Hunter group members also recommend going to places like Cheyenne, Wyo, where some stores allow Coloradans to get the shot.

Lux and Gannon also recommend calling the pharmacy to inquire about any leftover vaccine.

Many pharmacies have a handful of leftover vaccines every day that would otherwise be thrown away. Many will give you the shot even if you don’t meet the eligibility requirements.

Both women also recommend stopping by pharmacies late in the day to inquire about any vaccine residues.

“When you’re there physically, it’s a lot easier for them to tell you can have it than to call a list of 200 people,” Gannon said.

You may be wondering if some of these tips are a way to scam the system.

“This is a conversation we’ve had on many of these boards. What is ethical “said Lux.” We want people who are eligible to get the vaccine to get the vaccine. That’s the goal. ”

According to Lux, many members of the group are discussing these questions and are also looking for answers. They claim that most people don’t try to get in tune and want to do the right thing.

“Is it ethical to go to Wyoming when we live in Colorado? People report that they spoke to them directly and said, “Hey, I spoke to King Soopers or I spoke to Walmart and they have these leftovers and they want to put them in an arm,” she said.

Facebook group moderators say membership has increased 500% in the last month.

However, there are other groups and locations with good advice on finding vaccine appointments.

There are bots on Twitter to notify you when a vaccine appointment is available in Colorado.

Gannon also has her own list of more than 30 vaccine registration pages that you can monitor for open appointments.

“You can get a vaccine. You will be given a vaccine. We know that, ”said Gannon.
