Journey guidelines might change immediately, guide journeys with warning: Trudeau
OTTAWA – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says any Canadian planning an international trip should cancel it.
Trudeau warns that while Canadians have the right to travel, the government can impose new restrictions on travelers returning to Canada at any time and without warning.
New varieties of the virus that causes COVID-19 are adding to the uncertainty that can affect decisions about how to deal with international arrivals.
The Canadian health department has documented 183 overseas flights to Canada since January 4, on which at least one passenger had COVID-19.
This includes four flights from London since the ban on approaches from the UK was lifted on January 6th.
Trudeau would not say, if pressed, what other measures he is considering, only noting that travelers are now required to present negative COVID-19 tests before boarding their planes and are still in quarantine for two weeks after they arrive have to ask.
