Now you’ll be able to guide a trip from this pandemic

But wise words from tourism director Berna Romulo-Puyat resumed as a domestic trip: Have a good trip!

GOOD[FARE] Flight and hotel staff strictly adhere to the Covid-19 security precautions

Boracay has been open to domestic travel again since the beginning of this month.

Staying home is still the best way to protect yourself and others from Covid-19, but the reopening of one of the top destinations in the Philippines is a signal that we may now be able to take calculated risks. The economy that is ultimately supposed to support us needs just as much protection from the pandemic as we do.

Berna Romulo Puyat, Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism (DOT), emphasizes that safety is a top priority and says: “We cannot surrender to this pandemic. We need to find ways to live and thrive in it while protecting ourselves and other people. “

We could say that reopening Boracay was a bold move, but the DOT, along with the other key agencies, notably the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF), has been researching the move thoroughly. “Boracay has been open to Western Visayas since June 16 and has remained Covid-free so far,” says Berna. “We looked at what works and what can be done better, and applied our lessons learned from best practices in other reopening targets.”

QUARANTINE RULES (QR) Contactless transactions and processes are used

Since the island paradise, one of the most famous of the country’s many islands, reopened to local tourists on October 1st after many months of lockdown, it has symbolized the revitalization of the tourism industry and its tireless efforts to restore jobs and those lost by the pandemic Livelihoods. “It also represents our resilience to adapt and innovate to make travel possible and safe even in these times,” adds Berna.

Here are excerpts from our conversation with the head of tourism about restoring tourism in the country.

Boracay’s recent opening is a bold statement, especially when it comes to easing age restrictions. How else can you reassure families with children under 21 and elders over 60 who are eager not to be cooped up for months?

MARINE COURSES Land, air or sea, social distancing and other safety measures are observed throughout the trip

By continuously informing the public of the numerous safety protocols that have been put in place to ensure the health and safety of our employees, we are striving to regain traveler confidence and slowly but surely rebuild the tourism sector.

It is only natural for families with children and the elderly to have travel concerns, but with the help of digital technology we can finally allow more tourists outside of Western Visayas to visit Boracay. Prospective visitors must submit their confirmed hotel bookings, airline tickets, and negative RT-PCR results obtained 48 hours prior to travel online for approval by the Aklan Provincial Government. Once approved, guests will receive their personal QR codes that they can use to reach access points and facilities, thus ensuring their safety and health.

To ensure that hotels and resorts meet the highest level of quality and safety, only accommodation providers with a DOT accreditation and a Certificate of Authority to Operate (CAO) are allowed to accept guests.

Wear your mask. Wash your hands Watch your distance. And enjoy the trip.

This initiative is in line with our campaign to support new health and safety guidelines with a focus on contactless transactions. The use of digital technologies in various business processes such as bookings and payments contributes to efforts to minimize personal obligations.

In addition, certified disinfection protocols and improved hygiene measures are now required from operations that are applied.

I am sure that the various innovative and rigorous public health and safety protocols that we have implemented and continue to practice will instill the trust and confidence of travelers and encourage families, including those with young children and the elderly, to embrace the beauty of ours Islands and islands to re-explore Enjoy the best our country has to offer.

What is safe travel for you?

It is important to follow the health and hygiene guidelines of the Department of Health (DOH) and the World Health Organization (WHO). An easy way to remember the most important ones is to accept the 3W.

Wear your mask.

Wash your hands

Watch your distance.

If each of us applies these principles individually, our own health and that of those around us are guaranteed and safe travel is strengthened.

Safe travel also means ensuring that security protocols and measures are implemented not only at the destination but also during the journey. For this reason, we need a negative RT-PCR test no earlier than 48 hours after entering and use digital applications that cover contact tracing and promote contactless transactions, such as in Boracay with its QR code technology and Baguio for its visitor information and travel assistance or VIS.ITA platform.

At the destination itself, the DOT has introduced guidelines on minimum standards for the safety and health of hotel accommodation, tourist land transport services, restaurants, MICE facilities, island and beach destinations as well as travel and tour operators.

These institutional measures will enable us to meet, if not exceed, our travelers’ expectations for safety and pave the way for a more sustainable and resilient tourism industry.

When planning a trip, what are the top three items on your list to make sure the trip is safe, just fond memories, no regrets?

The three things I can’t do without considering the country’s health and hygiene policies would be face mask, face shield and hand sanitizer. I always bring extra supplies of these three items with me when I go out.

Note: In answering many inquiries, “A negative RT-PCR result for seven years and under is not required” as stated in Executive Order No. 037, Series 2020 issued by the Aklan’s Office Florencio Miraflores.
