Shifting together with your furkid? You’ll want to plan forward! | Pets
Make plans for overnight stays
If you are far away and making stops on your road trip to your new city, it is important to book pet-friendly accommodation in advance to ensure it is available and your pet is welcome. If you need accommodation for a longer stay when you arrive at your new location, please also book it in advance.
Pack a bag with essentials for your pet
Just like you would pack a travel bag for yourself, pack one for your four-legged family member. Make sure your pet has all the necessities not just for the road trip, but also for a few days after the move. These important items include food, water, medication, bowls, collar / leash, favorite toy or blanket, and a first aid kit for your pet.
Plan to secure your pet in your vehicle
The rest of your family will buckle up when you are in the car, and so should your pet! Vehicle pet barriers, pet seat belts, pet car seats, and pet travel crates are great options for keeping your pet safe when they are traveling with you. When it comes to which option to choose, find out what is best for your pooch. Whichever animal welfare device you choose, it is best to purchase and try it out at least a month in advance so your dog can familiarize himself with it.
