Looking for Normal by author Karen Harmon

As a baby boomer travel, health and fitness blogger, I was recently invited by Looking For Normal author Karen Harmon to read and review her latest book release.

I was delighted to have the opportunity to read Karen’s latest book, as this true story of her family and herself takes place where our family lived in Canada. The author is also a baby boomer like my wife and me.

If you are wondering exactly who Baby Boomers are, be sure to check out my blog homepage introduction on the Gr8 Travel Tips homepage. I give a funny detailed description of who the millions of boomers around the world are. 🙂
Note: Born between 1946 and 1964.

In Search of Normal – Brief Introduction

Looking for normal

This personal journey introduces you to the author’s mother and father, and takes you back to a time when they were teenagers, living in the province of Saskatchewan and eventually making their way west to British Columbia.

It’s an interesting journey that begins in the 1930s and the Great Depression and continues into the 1940s and 1950s. She traces memories of her parents living together and raises her children during this time.

The author recalls her childhood memories with family, both well and sometimes difficult. It ends with Karen entering her early teens and having personal experience in this part of Canada.

It’s a wonderful, and sometimes very real, look at mental illnesses members of their family have caused in the past and how they were viewed and treated years ago.

I absolutely loved reading this book as it brought back many similar memories of my upbringing during those years. Reflecting on similar environments, activities, nostalgic memories of old television programs, popular foods, and treats that we also enjoyed in our childhood during this time.

In fact, many years ago my grandparents and parents worked their way west from Saskatchewan Province. Many people did this to escape the extremely difficult times of life on the prairies in the filthy 30’s and several decades after that.

Karen will take you on a very personal journey and remember the good times and bad you have lived through the years. If you are a baby boomer and / or enjoy reading a heartfelt factual story of life, this book is for you!

I also really enjoyed how the author included brief historical anecdotes about events, landmarks, and attractions that she mentions throughout the book. An excellent addition to the book that also provides an easy history lesson for readers.

Below I have listed the link to Karen’s official website. Here you will find access and more detailed information about the author, her publications and links to buy these wonderful books.
