Who is Katherine George; pro-PAK Twitter account fake, used for propaganda
PAK Bride demands books worth Rs 1 Lakh as Haq Mehr
Katherine George’s secret baffled Pakistan. Internet users were at a loss when they looked at the contents of Katherine George’s Twitter handle, which is about showing Pakistan in a positive light. Katherine not only shared the picturesque views of the foothills and riverside of Pakistan, but also acted as a defender of Pakistani men and their seriousness. Anything that would likely have gone unnoticed hadn’t Katherine stolen pictures of a Polish woman and passed them on as her own. That would still have been fine except for the flattering opinions made about Pakistani men for the mail.
The claim
Katherine George’s Twitter handle, which has nearly 12,000 followers, shared a few photos of a white woman posing with men and against the backdrop of Pakistani nature. The photos were titled “Nobody in the world respects women as much as Pakistani men. Very respectful and humble” and “Pakistan is a country that loves and respects women”.
Katherine George’s Twitter bio says “blogger” and “tourist” which makes the posts relevant. It is common among bloggers to share their personal experiences about one place, and in this case, Katherine was kudos to Pakistan and its men. Internet users were surprised by such biased allegations and reminded Katherine of the statistics of crimes against women that contradict her allegations.
Fact check
International business hours checked the contents of Katherine George’s Twitter handle, which has since been deleted. The reason for deleting the photos is what exposes the lies of the account.
A Polish woman named Aleks Mroz, who currently lives in Pakistan and organizes trips for people under Travel Studio 92, exposed the lies spread by this Twitter account. Mroz was informed about the fake account on Instagram because she does not have an account on Twitter. In this post, she used the Travel Studio 92 account to bring the truth to light.
Regardless, in a number of Instagram stories, Mroz called on Katherine George to share her photos without consent and add biased opinions.
“The Post is trying to make it clear that a white girl who comes to Pakistan for a moment thinks she now knows everything about Pakistan,” she said.
“Isn’t it strange that shortly after the Pakistani Women’s March Against the Patriarchate Pandemic, such a heavily biased post appeared online?” she then asked.
See how Mroz reacted to Katherine’s posts and exposed the lies spread by the Pro-PAK account.
After that, we assessed other factors such as that the account was not created until February 2021 and all digits are for Pakistan. Even the profile picture is a random photo chosen by Google. There are no personal identifiers for Katherine George on the account. For a blogger, the topic of Pakistan is niche and purposeful. Several users even pointed out that Katherine George’s account may not be legitimate.
Based on this evidence, we conclude that Katherine George’s Twitter account is fake and the person who runs it could be a Pakistani propagandist.
